Mycoplasma Testing

Mycoplasma is a common and serious contaminant of cell cultures. Mycoplasma is often not visible and does not respond to antibiotics, and therefore it is a major issue that requires monitoring and early detection. The small size and flexible shape of mycoplasma allow them to pass through bacterial filters during bioprocessing. Mycoplasma contamination triggers changes in metabolism growth, viability, and morphology, thereby altering the phenotypic characteristics of the host cells and creating a massive discrepancy in scientific findings. Screening for mycoplasma contamination is recommended regularly before cell banking and cryopreservation.

We have optimized and standardized real-time PCR (qPCR)-probe based assay for rapid, robust, and sensitive detection of mycoplasma contaminations. Our assay is powerful enough to capture more than 100 mycoplasma species. This detection system targets specifically all Mycoplasma species that are known contaminants of cell cultures and media components.
